As much as I love the angels and all that and I feel like they’ve brought more to the story line and expanded the family aspect outside of just Dean and Sam, I have to agree with this. Seeing just Dean and Sam on the road with their issues just being the next monster will always be one of the best things to see. It was just easier for them back then and it was easier for them to be together and all that.
